In Romans, chapter 11 verses 19 through 36, Paul specifically addresses the Gentiles in the church in Rome. He explains that because Israel largely rejected salvation through Jesus, the Gentiles now have the opportunity to be grafted into the body of Christ. The Gentiles are now able to be partakers in the family of God and all of its benefits. Paul says to the Gentiles that the simple difference between the unsaved Jews and themselves is their belief/unbelief in the Gospel message. In verse 20, Paul warns the Gentiles to not think more highly of themselves than they should. Instead, live with humility, being constantly on guard and aware of their dependence on God for everything.
What a perfect reminder for us! In our present-day culture, we are surrounded by those who have not made a decision to accept the Gospel message. Sinful behavior and displays of debauchery are offensive to us as believers. We can start to think that we are better than them. But, every unbeliever is simply one moment, one Holy Spirit encounter, one decision away from being grafted into the body of Christ, just as we have been, by the grace of God.
Pastor Tom has said many times that we are to “Love the sinner, hate the sin.” The Bible says in Romans 2:4 that God’s kindness is what draws sinners to repentance. Let us be His love in a world that is full of hate. Let us posture ourselves in humility to our Lord in a world that is full of pride. Let us develop a mindset of dependency upon the grace of God in a world that is full of carnal independence. Let us turn our eyes to only Jesus in a culture of “look at me” self-centeredness. Let us identify with Christ in a world displaying an identity crisis. I pray that the Church is a true reflection of Jesus on this Earth!
We continue to stand on and support Biblical principles and aim to live our lives according to His Word. But, let us not forget where we once were before we turned our own hearts to Jesus. May we humble ourselves and pray for salvation, deliverance and revival in our land! May we love God and love people with all our hearts!
