Colossians 2:6-7
“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
Rooted: establish deeply and firmly; cause someone to stand immobile through fear or amazement
The strength of a tree is not solely determined by the height or the thickness of the tree, but by its root system. Trees with healthy root systems fare better during storms. The deeper and wider the roots extend, the better chance a tree has to weather whatever may rage against it. And with every storm, the roots become stronger and deeper.
As believers in Jesus, we are called to walk with Him, follow Him and grow in Him. We learn to walk with Him through prayer…time spent talking to Jesus. We learn to follow Him when we listen and obey the promptings and voice of Holy Spirit. We learn how to grow in Him by reading, meditating on and understanding the Word of God. This is how we develop roots that can withstand whatever the enemy of our souls throws at us. When we stand on the truth of the Word, who Jesus is and who we are in Christ, we will stand unshakeable and immovable, knowing that greater is He that is in me than He that is in the world.
I thank you, Father, for Jesus Christ, my firm foundation, the Rock on which I stand. I thank you for Your Word and the light it brings to my path. I thank you for Your Holy Spirit who walks with me, comforts me and empowers me to be your hands and feet. Through You and in You I can face anything.
