Always Enough

He is Jehovah Jireh, our More-than-Enough Provider

I Kings 17:13

“And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said…”

When you have a minute, go back and read through I Kings, chapter 17. This is the chapter that tells the story of the widow of Zarephath. She provided “a meal” for Elijah when it did not seem as if she had enough for herself and her child. His first request had been for water, which even though it would have been very difficult to find, she said she would do it. But, when he went a step further, and asked her for some bread, she hesitated, because she was not sure if she had enough to do what he asked of her. But, as the verse above states, Elijah told her, “Don’t be afraid. Go and do what you have said you would do.”

Some of us have a habit of not following through with what we say we’re going to do. Whether that is promises made to God like, “I’ll do anything you want me to do,” “I’ll go anywhere you want me to go,” “I’ll love whoever you want me to love.” Or maybe it looks like promises to our spouses or our children or our friends. Holy Spirit has been convicting me about my yes being yes and my no being no, and simply doing what I said I would do. If you made a commitment to somebody, follow through with it!

Sometimes we don’t follow through with our promises because we are afraid that we will not have enough energy, not enough time, not enough talent, not enough money, and sometimes, just not enough mental or emotional capacity to do what we said we would do. But just like the widow in this story, when we follow through with what we said we’re going to do, God always provides what we need and more. The widow was able to feed Elijah, herself and her son for a very long time.

You can read all thoughout the Bible about God providing an overflow of blessings after someone has been obedient to what He asks of them to do. God provided Abraham with the sacrifice to make instead of Isaac. Through Isaac, God provided Abraham with many many descendants. Jesus fed the 5000 with five loaves and two fish and then the disciples all had an entire basket of leftovers to take home with them. I’d call that overflow! These are just two examples of the way our God is truly Jehovah Jireh.

What have you been putting off that you told God you would do? Fear not, Jehovah Jireh will provide you with everything that you need to accomplish the task and even more. You will have more than enough! You WILL have overflow in your life because of your obedience. An overflow of energy, love, finances, space, talent, wisdom, whatever else you need!

I challenge you today, “Do what you said you would do!”
