Earnest Prayer

James 5:16

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”

Have you ever felt like your prayers won’t be heard or answered because you’re not “good enough?” What does it take to be a righteous person?

2 Corinthians 5:21 says that we are the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ. So that means if you are a born again believer, whose Lord and Savior is Jesus Christ, you are a righteous person! When you are born again, your spirit become righteous, holy, sanctified, perfect…just like Jesus!

And because of this union that we have in Jesus, we can go boldly before the throne of God and find the mercy and grace that we need! We can have confidence in our loving Father to hear our prayers when we cry out to Him! We can trust Him with our needs and know that He can do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think and that He is working all things for our good, even when we don’t see it!

Prayer doesn’t manipulate the decisions or will of God, but puts us in agreement with His will! Through prayer, we become partners with Holy Spirit for God’s will to be done. We should always pray “Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” How do we know what God’s will is? We can’t always know for certain in each individual situation, but we can look in the Bible and see what He has to say about healing, deliverance, obedience, blessing, prosperity, His desire for nations and families, marriage, love, the sanctity of life, identity and more.

How can you apply this principle to your prayers today? Declare the Word as you make your petitions to the Lord today!
