Ezekiel 1:1, 26-28

“As I looked, I saw a great storm coming from the north, driving before it a huge cloud that flashed with lightning and shone with brilliant light. There was fire inside the cloud, and in the middle of the fire glowed something like gleaming amber.”

“Above this surface was something that looked like a throne made of blue lapis lazuli. And on this throne high above was a figure whose appearance resembled a man. From what appeared to be his waist up, he looked like gleaming amber, flickering like a fire. And from his waist down, he looked like a burning flame, shining with splendor. All around him was a glowing halo, like a rainbow shining in the clouds on a rainy day. This is what the glory of the Lord looked like to me. When I saw it, I fell face down on the ground, and I heard someone’s voice speaking to me.”

The book of Ezekiel opens up with a vision from God. If you go back and read the entire chapter, you will see that it is full of wheels, face of animals, wings, jewels and other symbolic things. Honestly, I’ve always been quite confused as to what all these symbols mean. But just yesterday, I had a revelation of what this is all about.

Ezekiel was born into the priesthood of Israel. He was called to be a prophet. In Bible days, being a prophet was not a fun time. They were usually warning of God’s impending judgement on the people of Israel because they were such a rebellious bunch. Prophets faced a lot of persecution and Ezekiel was no different. I believe God gave Ezekiel a vision of who He is in preparation for His calling.

Ezekiel’s vision was God revealing His omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence. He is everywhere, all the time, all at once. He knows everything and is everywhere. He sees everything. He is all-powerful, more powerful than anything in heaven or on earth. The power and presence of God literally fills the earth…from the ground to as high as you can see and beyond and stretches out from left to right as far as you can see. He can go anywhere and do anything in an instant. He has angels serving Him continually…He says/thinks and they do what He says. He is beautiful. He is wind and fire and light. Ezekiel’s vision of God is unbelievably beautiful and frightening. And one more thing…in the middle of all the jewels and eyes and faces and wheels is Jesus. Yes, Jesus! He is sitting on a throne made of something like a giant sapphire and is emanating what appears to be fire and a rainbow…power and love! Wow. Our Creator is amazing!

In Psalm 139:7-12, David also writes about God’s omnipresence, omnipotence and omniscience. There is nowhere that we can go that God is not there!

In this battle of life that we’re in, remember Who it is that is with us and in us. Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world. Some people think that God and Satan are equal…a good vs bad situation where they are worthy opponents vying for your attention. This is absolutely false. They are not equal at all. Our God is vastly, indescribably, exponentially bigger and more powerful than Satan. Remember, Satan is simply a fallen angel gone rogue. The only power Satan has over you is the power that you give him. He cannot control you, but only influence you through external situations and people. And as a born-again believer, we have the Spirit of God living in us. Do you see the comparison? There is no comparison! Satan is under your feet! Stomp on him! He’s such a little jerk!

So whatever you’re facing today, whatever you’re going through, look up. Our God is bigger and greater.

🎶Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.🎶
